Look closer

The brightest white is the paper

The pale rings along a tentacle, two sprigs left untouched inside a field of apricot, the flecks lifted out of a papaya's dark seeds. In each of these details the brightest white is not painted. It is the paper itself, kept clear or uncovered again while the color moves around it.

Selected work

From a full sheet to a single bird

Flowers, fruit, leaves and birds. Some paintings fill the paper; others leave most of it open.

Commissions

A painting for a particular place

Natalia paints commissioned watercolors as single large works or as a group planned together for a home, an office, a restaurant or another interior.

A commission can also be small and personal: a place you love, an animal, a view you want to keep.

The artist

Natalia Erdmann

Natalia is a Mexican artist who paints only in watercolor. Her background in architecture shows in how she composes the sheet: measured margins, fields of color set inside the paper, and close attention to the edge where a wash either stops cleanly or is allowed to run.
